7-day quarantine mandatory for all international passengers coming to India

All international passengers coming to India will be required to quarantine at home for seven days, said the Center as it issued the revised guidelines. The new guidelines will be effective from January 11.

The Center has also expanded the list of ‘at-risk’ countries to include the United Kingdom, China, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Brazil, Botswana, Ghana, Mauritius, Hong Kong, Israel, Congo, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria, Tunisia and Zambia. Travellers from ‘at-risk’ countries will be required to provide samples for COVID-19 testing on arrival in India and will be allowed to leave the airport only after their test results are received. Those testing negative will have to quarantine at home for seven days, followed by undergoing an RT-PCR test on the eighth day.

Positive samples will be sent for genomic testing, and these people will be accommodated at an isolation facility. States will be required to trace the contacts of these passengers.

Additionally, around 2% of the passengers of a flight from countries which are not in the ‘at-risk’ list will be subjected to random testing… (Scroll.in, January 7, 2022)
